Social Studies Cycle 1
In cycle 1 students will learn about the original thirteen colonies. Our main focus will be life in the 1700's and comparing it to our present day lives.
During week 5 of our cycle the students will work on a group project. The project will be introduced to them in the beginning of that week. This will be an in-class project. The students will be provided with a rubric.

The class will learn about 4 major battles, 2 individuals who were important in the war, and an important document.
Vocabulary:
Militia: An army composed of citizens rather than trained professional soldiers.
Patriot: A colonist who wanted to separate from England and form a new country.
Loyalist: A colonist who remained loyal to the King of England, King George III.
Paul Revere: A colonist who made the famous "Midnight Ride" to warn the militia that the BRITISH WERE COMING! (1775)
The Battle of Lexington: The first battle of the Revolutionary War. The British won this battle. (1775)
The Battle of Concord: The second battle of the Rev. War. The Colonists won this battle. (1775)
The Battle of Saratoga: The turning point of the war. The colonists got help from France to win the war. (1777)
